"My name is not Annie. It’s Quvenzhané."

- Quvenzhané Wallis (then age 9) correcting an AP Reporter who said she was “just going to call her Annie” instead of learning how to pronounce her name. Never forget.  (via thechanelmuse)

The point of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

the point of pouring a shit ton of ice water over yourself is because when one suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) one of the affects the disease has is a numbness throughout the body, as well as struggling to breathe, and both these are meant to temporarily happen when doused in freezing water. It’s to raise awareness of what ALS feels like and encourage donations towards research and cures.

Reactions to Barack Obama’s statement on Ferguson

HE SAID WHAT?

I don’t want to believe this. I don’t want to know that he said this. I don’t want to believe it.

yall REALLLYYYYY thought obama could come up there and give white people that reall truth truth about themselves while he was in office ? come on now they woulda called him racist and impeached him

Please

do people really expect him to get up there and speak like Rev. Al Sharpton though??????????? he can’t get up on that podium and start lambasting people left and right. i just don’t get it. no other president has ever commented on racial incidents. but for some reason we —black people—want to harshly criticize him and hold him to some different standard. he is the first president to even say something as soon as he did. and people should not expect the next white president to speak up. and don’t even expect hillary to say anything and i want these same black people tearing up obama to go at hillary in the same fashion.

1. Kennedy did. 2. I don’t expect him to go up there and start preaching, but at least don’t blame the victim.

I’m asking not because I don’t believe you but I can’t recall at this this time…what did Kennedy immediately respond to? and what did obama say where he was blaming the victim (i’m assuming you mean mike brown?)

I misread your comment. I don’t know if Kennedy directly responded to an event. This is true. I was thinking of race issues in general.  As in… http://gallifreyglo.tumblr.com/post/95133221750/gdirtydime19-wow

Obama always expresses concern or grief about specific events and then moves on to general ideas such as we (black people) have to do better or do more within the black community. which indirectly says the reason black people are brutalized and oppressed is because they’re not respectable enough and that’s bullshit.  He also said that either africans or “3rd world” nations in general need to stop blaming the west and take responsibility for their own development.   This is the same comment on a different scale.

People keep saying it’s a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t situation for him. This may be true… but why does he so often choose to be damned for not doing anything?

Like I said in another post… I never expected him to be perfect… President Moses leading black folk to the promised land.  I voted because he as a black man should have the right to be just as good or awful as white presidents have been… I just hoped I wouldn’t be so disappointed at times like this.
